Eocarcharia dinops means “dawn shark”
Eocarcharia lived amongst the lush plant life and wide rivers of early Cretaceous Niger in the Elrhaz Formation (which now makes up a portion of the dry fossil graveyard in the Tenere desert). This carnivorous theropod was closely related to Carcharodontosaurus and Giganotosaurus, but slightly smaller. Its name translates to “dawn shark”, referring to the shark-like serrations found on the teeth of dinosaurs in this family.
